On Saturday, 21 June 2025, our KCP team attended a ceremony at the Thammasat Association to visit our senior advisor, Dr. Naris Chaiyasoot. Before becoming an advisor for KCP, Dr. Naris served as the President of Thammasat University from 1998 to 2004. He currently holds multiple prominent positions, such as
Chairman of AP Thailand PCL
Chairman of the Audit Committee for GMM Grammy PCL.
Chairman of Fortune Part Industry PCL.
Chairman of United Palm Oil Industry PCL.
Dr. Naris has been instrumental in advising us on M&A, joint ventures, and legal matters. He also provides invaluable insights into the current Thai market, identifies emerging trends, and introduces Thai partners who can collaborate with our Japanese clients.
Dr. Naris has also authored a book titled, "ดร. นริศ ชัยสูตร 70 ปี เส้นทางชีวิตที่ผ่านมา" or "Dr. Naris Chaiyasoot: 70 Years of Life's Journey." This book reflects on his life, covering his childhood, adulthood, and elderhood.
Lessons from the Book "ดร. นริศ ชัยสูตร 70 ปี เส้นทางชีวิตที่ผ่านมา"
Chapter 8: "A Powerful Lesson in Childhood That Influences Life"
Dr. Naris recalls attending a sporting event at Suphachalasai Stadium during his youth. Witnessing both international and Thai athletes compete for medals, he realized that victory is not just about winning but about appreciating effort, willpower, sportsmanship, and adherence to rules.
He reflected, “To be victorious in life does not mean holding a trophy but comes from effort, discipline, patience, training, admitting defeat, and respecting others and regulations.”
Chapter 16: "Weakness of Executive Members"
Having extensive experience as an executive, Dr. Naris emphasized that a good executive is not solely defined by management capabilities or strategic planning but also by continuous self-improvement. He highlighted the importance of effective public speaking—simplifying complex ideas, persuading audiences, and engaging them effectively. While he admitted to struggling with public speaking, he adhered to the principle “Actions speak louder than words.”
Dr. Naris believes that understanding one’s weaknesses is not an obstacle but an opportunity to build a strong team that compensates for those gaps. “Persuasive words are temporary, but sincere actions win people’s hearts,” he said.
Chapter 41: "Knowing Yourself as You Age"
Aging is an inevitable part of life, as our bodies and memories become more vulnerable. However, Dr. Naris encourages embracing this stage with a mindset of adaptation and self-care. “Aging is a perception,” he explains, “and accepting it allows you to live life to the fullest.”
Chapter 46: "Forgiveness and the Complete Conclusion of the Story."
Dr. Naris considers forgiveness one of the most powerful acts. Whether the mistakes of others are intentional or unintentional, he suggests that minor errors should not be overthought. Holding grudges only traps one in the past. Forgiveness, on the other hand, liberates both the forgiver and the forgiven, bringing happiness and peace.
Conclusion
Dr. Naris’s book is more than a reflection of his successful career; it is a source of profound lessons about resilience, perspective, and growth. It teaches us to embrace hardship, view the world through different lenses, and learn from mistakes. When plans falter, opportunities often emerge in their wake. These insights offer timeless principles for self-improvement, whether applied to personal endeavors or professional aspirations.
